► What is Syllable Stress?

 

In English, when we use longer words (e.g., "table" or "elephant"), one of the syllables is louder, longer, or has a different pitch than the others. This is known as syllable stress. The stressed syllable of the word stands out most strongly.

Syllable Stress in Three-Syllable Words:

In three-syllable words, the stress often falls on the first syllable for nouns and adjectives, but it can fall on the second syllable for verbs.
