Lesson 11 - LIFE ON THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION
The International Space Station (ISS) is a satellite. It orbits the Earth once every 90 minutes, travelling at 28,000 kilometres per hour! But it’s different from a normal satellite because about ten astronauts live on it. The astronauts on the ISS have a lot of jobs to do every day. They do experiments to find out more about space. They use special tools to fix the station, and if they need to fix something outside, they put on their spacesuits and do a spacewalk! When they aren’t working, astronauts read and take photos. There’s one more important thing for astronauts to do: exercise! People are weightless in space, so their muscles don’t work hard and can become very weak. Astronauts need to exercise for two hours a day!
