Giving advice

"Say it!"

1- "I think you should…"

This phrase is a polite way to suggest an action. It shows that you’re giving a gentle recommendation.

Example: "I think you should talk to your teacher if you’re having difficulty with the homework."

2- "Perhaps you ought to…"

• This is a slightly more formal suggestion and can make the advice sound thoughtful.

Example: "Perhaps you ought to join a study group if you need help with the material."

3- If I were you, I would…"

• This phrase is effective because it shows empathy, as if you’re putting yourself in the other person’s shoes.

Example: "If I were you, I would try to get more sleep before exams."

4- "Why don’t you…?"

This question form makes the advice sound friendly and open-ended. It’s a gentle nudge to try something.

Example: "Why don’t you ask your friend for help if you’re confused?"

5- "You could always…"

This phrase suggests an option, making it sound like one of many possibilities.

Example: "You could always ask the teacher if you need more help."

Understanding the Two Th  Sounds'

placing your tongue between your teeth and blowing air out. Your vocal cords do not vibrate.
