Comparative:
When we use them?
A comparative is the form of adjective or adverb used to compare between two things.
How do we use the comparative?
- The first one
Adjective with (one syllable or two) we add -er Adj + er + than Ex: sara is taller than alia |
- The second one
Adjectives ending -y change it into -ier
Ex: lazy → lazier than Ahmad is lazier than Ali |
-The third one
One syllable adjective ending with CONSONANT + VOWEL + CONSONANT double the last consonant and add – er Ex: Big → bigger than |
- The fourth one
Adjective with 2 or more syllables add more before the adjective More + adj. (2 or more syllables) + than Ex: |
- The final one
Irregular adjective Good better than Bad worse than Far farther than/further than Much more Ex: I like Rama better than Sara |
Superlative:
When we use them?
We use them to compare ONE object, person, place in a GROUP.
How do we use the comparative?
- The first one
Adjective with (one syllable or two) we add -est The + adj + est Ex: sara is tallest one |
- The second one
Adjective with ending -y change it into – iest
