Question: I stare at a computer screen all day for work, does it hurt my eyesight? Answer: If you are constantly looking at a computer screen for several hours a day, you probably know that feeling of eye strain and tension.
It is possible that what you are suffering from is Computer Vision Syndrome or what is also known as Digital Eye Strain. According to the American Optometric Association, this condition occurs as a result of the constant use of digital devices, such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones. This condition is also exacerbated by poor office lighting, screen glare, and incorrect sitting posture.

According to a recent study, researchers in Madrid, Spain, found that the light-emitting diode used in LED screens caused retinal damage in the eyes of laboratory mice. Perhaps that gives credence to the idea that your own devices may be doing some harm. However, more research is necessary to determine whether the same effect occurs in humans.
After thinking about all of that, you are bound to feel the consequences of staying in front of a screen all day without a break, even if it doesn't cause you permanent harm. The best way to prevent and reduce digital eye strain is to follow doctors' advice of the 20-20-20 rule: after every 20 minutes, take 20 seconds of rest, 

Look through it at something 20 feet away. You can also set your computer to dim the brightness if you can, or you can use eye drops to increase eye moisture.
Or, as Melanie Schmidt recommends, you can completely step away from your desk for a while.
