Plastic Pollution in the Sea
A report by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation warns that by the year 2050, there might be more plastic than fish in the ocean. This is due to the fact that we are making 20 times more plastic than 50 years ago, but only 5% is recycled. Around 8 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean each year—like dumping one garbage truck into the sea every minute. This plastic harms marine animals like fish, turtles, and seals. The report urges businesses and governments to use recyclable plastics and make sure plastic waste doesn’t end up in the sea.
