Lesson 1A Grammar: Going to

When do we use “going to”?

We use going to + verb to talk about:

1️ ⃣ Future plans (قرارات وخطط مسبقة)

Things we already decided before speaking.

I’m going to visit my uncle.

We’re going to travel this summer.

She’s going to study hard.

The decision is already made.

Negative Form

Subject + am/is/are + not + going to + base verb

I’m not going to travel.
She isn’t going to come.
They aren’t going to play.

Question Form

Am/Is/Are + subject + going to + base verb?

Are you going to study tonight?
Is she going to buy a dress?
What are they going to do?

Important Note

We use base verb after going to:

(correct) going to visit
(correct) going to travel
(Incorrect) going to travels
(Incorrect) going to visited

💡 الفرق بين:

Example:

I’m going to study tonight. (I planned it before)

OK, I’ll help you. (Decision now)

Remember:

After going to → use the base verb only.

✔ going to cook
✔ going to buy
✔ going to travel

❌ going to ~~cooking~~
❌ going to ~~bought~~

Short Answers

Question:
Is she going to study?

Short answers:
Yes, she is.
No, she isn’t.

Don’t say: Yes, she’s.
