Conditionals are sentences with a condition and a result.

Structure:
If + condition, result
or
Result + if + condition

 

 

Main Types:

  1. Zero Conditional 

  • If + present simple, present simple

  • Example:
    If you heat water, it boils.

 

  1. First Conditional 

  • If + present simple, will + base verb

  • Example:
    If it rains, we will stay at home.

 

  1. Second Conditional 

  • If + past simple, would + base verb

  • Example:
    If I had a car, I would drive to work.

  1. Third Conditional 

  • If + past perfect, would have + past participle

  • Example:
    If I had studied, I would have passed the exam
