Present Continuous – Future Arrangements
 


 

We use Present Continuous (am / is / are + verb-ing) to talk about fixed future arrangements.

 It is a real plan (meeting, ticket, booking, agreement).

🔹 Affirmative

Subject + am / is / are + verb-ing

  • I’m flying to New York on Saturday.

  • She’s meeting her friend tonight.

  • We’re studying this weekend.

🔹 Negative

Subject + am / is / are + not + verb-ing

  • I’m not flying to New York on Saturday.

  • She isn’t meeting her friend tonight.

  • We aren’t studying this weekend.

🔹 Questions

Am / Is / Are + subject + verb-ing?

  • Are you flying to New York on Saturday?

  • Is she meeting her friend tonight?

  • Are they studying this weekend?

Short Answers:

  • Yes, I am. / No, I’m not.

  • Yes, she is. / No, she isn’t.

  • Yes, they are. / No, they aren’t.

 Time Expressions

  • tonight

  • this weekend

  • next Saturday

  • in the morning

Difference: Present Continuous vs Going to

 




 

 

🔹 Going to = intention (just an idea)

  • I’m going to visit the museum.
     It’s my intention.

🔹 Present Continuous = arranged plan

I’m visiting the museum.
 It’s planned. Maybe I bought the tickets.
