Activity 1: Complete the sentences with words from the story

  1. Prince Freddie had lots of clothes and games, but he was unhappy.
  2. He had an idea. He took off his crown and ran down the stairs.
  3. ‘Buy my watches!’ said a man. ‘They’re made of silver.’
  4. ‘I’d like these clothes,’ he said, ‘and you can sell this jacket!’
  5. Later at the palace, the king and queen didn’t recognise their son.

Activity 2: Read and write T (true), F (false) or DS (doesn’t say)

  1. The prince saw the date when he was playing games.
    • Answer: F - He saw the date when he was looking at his diary.
  2. The prince thought his clothes and crown were too formal.
    • Answer: T - He thought they were formal and uncomfortable.
  3. An Italian woman was selling some leather shoes.
    • Answer: DS - The woman was selling leather shoes from Italy, but the story doesn’t say where she’s from.
  4. Freddie bought some comfortable gloves at the shop.
    • Answer: F - He bought some comfortable tracksuit trousers at the shop.
  5. The children who talked to Freddie didn’t go to his school.
    • Answer: DS - The children are from the town, but the story doesn’t mention a school.

 

  1. The king and queen were surprised when they saw Freddie.
    • Answer: T - They were surprised and they didn’t recognise their son.

Activity 3: Write the opposites of the adjectives (using the prefix un-)

  1. exciting - unexciting
  2. kind- unkind
  3. safe - unsafe
  4. tidy - untidy

Activity 4: Use the negative adjectives from Activity 3 to write sentences

  1. The living room is messy. - The living room is untidy.
  2. Today was a boring day. - Today was an unexciting day.
  3. Don’t be mean to animals! - Don't be unkind to animals!
  4. Don’t play in dangerous places. - Don’t play in unsafe places.

Activity 5: Write four sentences using negative prefixes

  1. I feel uncomfortable in these tight shoes.
  2. Leaving the door open at night is unsafe.
  3. My bedroom is very untidy at the moment.
  4. It was unkind of him to shout at his friend.
