Explanation of Present Passive:

In the Present Passive:

  1. We use the verb "be" (in the present form, such as "is", "are", or "am") and the past participle of the verb.

  2. The "doer" (the person or thing doing the action) may not be mentioned or may come at the end of the sentence, introduced by "by".

Examples:

  • "It’s called silk."

    • Here, the focus is on the thing being named, not who is naming it.

  • "They’re made of leather."

    • The focus is on the material used, not who made the jackets.

  • "It’s used for making jackets."

    • The focus is on how the material is used, not on who is using it.

  • "They’re worn by princes."

    • The focus is on the clothing being worn, not on who is wearing it.

    • 5 5.11 Listen to a podcast. Use the verbs to write four sentences about how cotton clothes are made.
