What is a notice?

A notice is a short message that gives important information to people (for example: lost items or things for sale).

How to write a good notice:

  1. Start with a big heading

    • Example: LOST or FOR SALE
→ This helps people notice it quickly.

  2. Include a picture (optional)

    • Add a picture of the item you lost or want to sell.

  3. Keep it short and clear

    • Use simple sentences.

    • Do not add unnecessary details.

  4. Include important information:

    • A simple description of the item

    • When and where you lost it (for LOST)

    • Your contact details (phone/email)

    • A reward (for LOST) or the price (for SALE)

5 The writer of notice A included these sentences. Do you think they are useful? Say why.

4. 1 Notice A is better. It has a big heading, it’s easy to read because it’s short and in note form, and it’s colourful. 2 Notice A: You could take out the information about how the headphones were a present. However, this is sometimes useful information to include – see Exercise 5. Notice B: ‘I got it from my brother when he bought a new one but I never use it’ is not necessary. 3 Notice B: There isn’t a FOR SALE heading or a price and Hamzah’s contact details are missing

5. They show the writer’s emotions. A reader of this notice will feel more motivated to help.

6. FOR SALE I’m selling my Bean Z1 fi tness tracker. It’s only six months old and it’s in perfect condition. Send me an email if you’re interested: HamzahA@mailme.net
