What is an opinion essay?
An opinion essay presents the writer’s viewpoint on a topic, supported by reasons and evidence.
Purpose: To persuade the reader to agree with a specific perspective.
How to structure an opinion essay
Paragraph 1 → Introduction
Hook: Start with an interesting statement or question.
Background: Provide context for the topic.
Thesis Statement: Clearly state your opinion and outline the main points.
Paragraphs 2, 3, and 4 → Body
Use facts and anecdotes to explain why you hold your opinion. Make sure you use credible sources! It’s not enough to just say what you think; you should also explain what evidence led you to that opinion.
Point 1: A main argument with supporting evidence.
Point 2: Another argument with supporting evidence.
Point 3: Additional argument with supporting evidence.
Paragraph 5 → Conclusion
Restate your opinion.
Summarize key points.
End with a call to action or a thought-provoking statement.
