Employee of the month
There are many people who are still famous today because of what they did or who they were. Here are three that we, at Books Weekly, think are some of the most famous.
Like millions of people around the world, Khalid Mustafa works in an office. He works with the same colleagues every day, and he often has meetings with people from other companies. Everyone says the same thing about him – he is the ideal employee.
“Khalid is a great worker and an example to follow. He's always neatly dressed, and he follows the code of workplace ethics,” explains his boss, Saleh Moussa. “This means that he behaves properly in the office. He is very polite and respectful to those around him. He has a positive attitude, and he interacts very well with his colleagues so that the job is done efficiently. I also trust Khalid. He would rather resign than lie, cheat, steal or accept a bribe.
” Khalid also abides by the company’s dress code. This is another reason why he's such a good worker. He usually dresses up in a casual business style and makes sure that his clothes are always neat. “It means I can work more comfortably,” says Khalid. “It also projects a professional image to my colleagues and to visiting clients.
” Any employee who doesn't respect the company’s dress code may be sent home to change or receive a verbal warning, but this is never a problem for Khalid. “I always feel happy when I’m working hard. The dress code helps to create a working environment where it is simple to do that.” In short, Khalid’s conduct at work is exemplary.
Suggested answers
1. I should be very polite and respectful to those around me. I should always have a positive attitude and interact well with my colleagues.
2. I can always dress neatly to project a professional image to clients.
3. A dress code is important in an office because it helps create a working environment that is more comfortable and professional.

LISTENING
6 Read the quiz questions and choose the best answer for you. Then, listen to see what associations your answers have.

Audioscript
If you answered mostly ‘a’, this means that you may be a person who is strong, mysterious or sad. Black is the colour that people wear when they are sad, or when they want to make themselves look strong. It is also mysterious, as it is the colour of secrets and shadows. If you answered mostly ‘b’, this means that you may be a person who is pure, neutral or calm. White is a bright, clean colour that makes people more relaxed and is a symbol of unity. However, too much white can be dull or make you feel alone. If you answered mostly ‘c’, this means that you may be a person who is energetic or who has strong emotions. It is an exciting and emotional colour, but it can also make people aggressive. Don’t wear it in meetings! If you had a mix of answers, you have a good balance of colour in your life. You can take the positive parts of each colour without being hurt by the negatives.

Punctuation: Revision
• Capital letters: We use capital letters at the beginning of sentences, for the first person singular pronoun (I), for the days of the week (Sunday), for the months of the year (January) and for proper names (Taleb).
• Full stops: Sentences start with a capital letter and end in a full stop.
• Commas: We use commas after the words first, second, third, etc., when these words introduce elements in series; before but and so to connect two independent clauses; and when we list three or more items.
• Apostrophes: We use the apostrophe when we write the subject pronoun and the verb as one word (I’m), as well as the auxiliary with not (don’t). It is also used to show that something belongs, is related to or is part of a person, a place or a thing (Saleem’s brother).
1 Rewrite this passage in your notebook using capital letters, full stops, commas and apostrophes as necessary.
ive lived in the countryside all my life even in the cold days of january my village is smaller quieter and less busy than big cities in my country although it gets a bit busy on fridays in general there isnt a lot to do as in the city but i like living here first the weather in the countryside is cooler than in the city because there are many forests and trees around my home second it is easier to travel around here. there isnt a lot of traffic and this means the atmospheres pollution is lower finally its friendlier in the village than in the city because everyone knows everyone else one day my brother omar and i want to experience life in a bigger place and i think its going to be interesting
