We use modal verbs for present speculation to make logical deductions or "guesses" about current situations based on the evidence we see. When we are almost 100% certain that something is true, we use must (e.g., "The chef must be busy"), but if we are certain that something is impossible, we use can't (e.g., "It can't be the same recipe"). For situations that are only a possibility, we use could, may, or might (e.g., "The restaurant might be closed"). Depending on the context, we use the infinitive for general facts or be + -ing to describe an action happening right now. It is crucial to remember that for negative certainty, the opposite of "must" is always "can't," never "mustn't."
