Prepositions of Place

1. In

  • Used when something is inside a space, container, or area.
    Example: The keys are in the drawer.
     Example: He lives in London.

2. On

  • Used when something is touching or resting on a surface.
     Example: The book is on the table.
    Example: The picture is on the wall.

3. Under

  • Used when something is below another object.
     Example: The cat is sleeping under the bed.

4. Next to

  • Used when something is beside another object.
     Example: The lamp is next to the sofa.

5. Opposite

  • Used when something is directly across from another object.
     Example: The school is opposite the park.

6. Between

  • Used when something is in the middle of two other objects.
     Example: The store is between the bank and the library.

7. Behind

  • Used when something is at the back of another object.
    Example: The car is parked behind the building.

8. In front of

  • Opposite of “behind.” Something is at the front of another object.
     Example: The bus is in front of the house.
