Writing an Informal Invitation

- Keep the invitation short and clear.

Key Elements

 

 

- Title of the event.
- Place, date, and time.
- Contact details.
- Encouraging tone for acceptance.

Sample Phrases for Invitations

- “I’d like to invite you to …”
- “I’m having a graduation dinner on …”
- “Would you like to come?”
- “Do you think you’ll be able to come?”
- “I’d like you to come. It’ll be great fun.”
- “I (really) hope you can make it.”

Receiving an Invitation

- Say thank you even if you decline.

Sample Phrases for Acceptance

- “Thanks (so much) for inviting me to …”
- “It was great/I was thrilled to get your invitation to …”
- “I really appreciate the invitation to … It’s really nice of you.” 

Accepting an Invitation

- Confirm attendance: “(Of course,) I’ll (definitely) be there.”
- Check arrangements:
- “What time are we meeting?”
- “How are we getting there?”
- “Do I need to bring anything?”

Declining an Invitation

- Give a reason and repeat your thanks.
