Quantifiers to make comparisons
- We can use more/less … than, as … as and the most/least to compare adjectives and adverbs.
1. (superlative adjective)
the most +adjective (long syllable)
the adjective+ -est (short syllable)
Which subjects are the most interesting, and which are the least interesting?
Which subject is the easiest?
2. (comparative adjective)
more + adjective than
adjective + -er than
English is more popular than French.
English is easier than French.
3. (not) as ......as
Is Maths as popular as Science?
History is not as popular as Computer science.
- We can also use as … as to compare adverbs.
Ahmad studies as hard as his brother.
I can't run as fast as you.
- We use as much/as many to compare quantities and numbers.
Ali doesn't have as many friends as his cousin. (countable)
I don’t eat as much sweets as my sister. (uncountable)
- We can also use as ... as adverbially.
I don't like reading as much as I like watching television.
I clean my room as often as possible.
