10 Answer the questions.

1 The text says that students will be living ‘as a family’. Give two examples from the text that illustrate this.

The students eat and socialise together.

2 Which part of the day will be the most formal? What happens then?

The morning, when there are three hours of intensive tuition

3 What do you think ‘a tailor-made course’ means, in paragraph 2?

a course designed to meet the specific needs of an individual student.

4 Students have a lot of options for these courses. However, there are two decisions they have to make before they arrive. What are they?

The duration of the course they wish to attend and the nature of the course (academic or vocational)

5 Imagine you joined a small group of students on a course like this. Think of three positive aspects, and three possible problems you might face.

Positive aspects include:

  • improving social skills
  • making new friends 
  • learning the language with its cultural context
  • learning the language quickly as you practise it all the time.

Possible problems are:

  • cultural misunderstanding
  • facing financial problems as these courses may be expensive.
  • being away from your family.

6 Would you go on a course like this? Why/Why not?

For me, I would go on a course like this to take all the benefits of practising the languge all the time with professional tutors.
